Parow was founded by Captain Johann Heinrich Ferdinand Parow, a German immigrant who arrived in the area in 1865 after being shipwrecked in Table Bay. Recognizing the potential of the Tyger Valley area for cattle trade, he purchased land and began selling plots, leading to the establishment of the suburb. Parow quickly developed into a bustling transport and trade center, with the construction of a railway line further boosting its growth.
